While my youngest son was in school,
he refused to read...
the whole literacy process was completely meaningless to him.
He confused letters by shape and sound, but not always...
which frustrated the teachers even more since they felt he was doing it to mock them.
So we constantly had to attend workshops and work with him to do endless practice, which only made him more withdrawn.
Once we were out,
once things flowed naturally,
there was no more holding back,
no more pressure,
no more making him feel less than everyone else,
and then...
The WOW moment arrived!
One day he calmly told me:
“Mom, I can already see it in my head.”
That day, what I knew about him
and what had brought us here
finally clicked...
It wasn't that he couldn't learn,
it was that he needed to feel safe to do so.
And achieving that didn't require years,
or arguments,
or thousands of practice pages;
just a little bit of patience, freedom,
a safe place, and...
WOW!
